The 2nd Workshop organized by the PASCAL project for PhD students and young professionals, focusing on the topics addressed in the Work Packages 2 and 4, will be held on December 13th and 14th, 2023 at JRC in Petten (Netherlands).

The registration and site access grant is open now, closing on November 30.

The 2nd Workshop of the PASCAL Project will be held between December 13th and 14th at the JRC site in Petten, the Netherlands.

The Workshop is aimed at providing PhD students and young professionals with an overview of the technical topics being investigated – experimentally and numerically – within the scope of Work Package 2 “Safety of the reactor coolant system” and Work Package 4 “Integrity and resistance”.

The main objective of this Workshop is to introduce the key aspects of the safety-relevant phenomena investigated in the two Work Packages, and to highlight state-of-the-art research being conducted in the Project to master them.

According to the general structure of the Project, all subjects will be addressed focusing on both their experimental investigation, and on the modeling for their numerical analysis, including interpretation, validation and extrapolation.

The programme includes two days of training from December 13th 9:00 AM to December 14th 4:00 PM, and a visit to the PALLAS construction site, in the early afternoon of December 13th.

Workshop registration & site access

All Workshop participants have to register here to receive access to the Petten site and for us to organise the catering and transportation. Registration via the link below is possible until 30th November and requires upload of a copy of the passport or ID. Workshop participants are required to bring the passport / ID they have used for the registration to the Workshop.

 

Accommodation

Workshop participants are advised to stay at Hotel Amrath in Alkmaar (Geestersingel 15, 1815 GA Alkmaar), at which a group reservation for workshop participants at a reduced room rate has been made. To benefit from the group reservation please book your hotel room via this link.

From Amsterdam Schiphol airport to Alkmaar – December 12th

The best and most convenient way to travel to Alkmaar from Amsterdam Schiphol airport is via train. Trains heading to North Holland (Sprinter To Hoorn Kersenboogerd) depart from Track 3 at 23 or 53 minutes past the hour. Leave the sprinter in Zaandam and switch to a train heading to Alkmaar or Den Helder and get off at Alkmaar train station. Hotel Amrath is in walking distance (5 minutes) from Alkmaar train station in Southern direction.

 

From the hotel to JRC Petten site and back – Daily

JRC will organise daily transportation of the Workshop participants between Hotel Amrath and the JRC Petten site on both days of the Workshop. Transportation will be in mini-buses and taxis. Workshop participants will be picked up at 8:30 on both days at Hotel Amrath and taken back to the Hotel at the end of Day 1 of the workshop.

 

From JRC Petten site to Amsterdam Schiphol airport or to the hotel – December 14th (closure of the Workshop)

JRC will organise direct transportation from the Petten site to Amsterdam Schiphol airport after the closure of the workshop on December 14th for those participants that will travel back home on the same day. For those participants that stay another night at Hotel Amrath and travel back on the December 15th, JRC will organise transport back to the hotel.

 

Workshop participants are requested to indicate their transportation needs (daily and after the workshop), when doing their registration. In case you plan to travel to Petten via private or rental car nothing needs to be indicated.
